(TFT) The Difference

The difference between D & D and TFT for me is two things: the simplicity,
and the flavor.

It IS a simple game. I like the fact that there is NOT scads of printed
information out for our game. I tried for a while to keep up with Forgotten
Realms (yes, I'm one of those who adored it!) and my budget just couldn't
keep pace. Then there was all the compendiums (spell, magic item, and
monster) that kept coming up. If I need something with TFT that I don't
have, I just bloody well MAKE it. IMHO the flavor of TFT is much better
than most anything TSR/WOTC ever came up with. I loved FR, but it was too
much.

The flavor of Cidri, the Mnoren and everything is the other reason I fell in
love with this game. I like the fact that there are goblin wizards in my
dungeons. I like the fact that Orcs are bad guys, but alot of the time they
are hearty squabbling folk who are NOT evil. I like the fact that your
character is defined by his actions, not by a two word alignment. I like
the fact that you trade in your experience points for better abilities, not
ascend to ever-more-meaningless levels. TFT was my first role-playing
experience.

Long live Tollenkar, Baerbar the barbarian, and the unkillable Time Beast!
