Well sure, that's more-or-less what I had in mind.  I think 
the aluminum-coins idea could work, but only in an isolated 
area.  If some cabal thought they could control the supply 
of a metal, and make it cheaply, it would be the perfect 
metal for them to mint.  Of course they're wrong, but that's
where the PC's come in.

Well, it could happen with anything, but aluminum is a lot 
more common of a building material than, say, gold.
