RE: (TFT) Traegor: System Data and Physical Description

Hi all,
I really liked the GURPS Space world generation
system but the huge discoveries in the last couple
years (many solar systems discovered) have dated it
some what.

First gas giants CAN have really close orbits
near the primary. This was thought to be impossible
at the time Space was written.

Second 'well ordered' solar systems where the
planets have nice close-to-circular orbits are proving
to be fairly rare. Tho many suns have solar systems,
most have planets with highly eccentric orbits.

GURPS Space (along with GURPS Uplift for its
WONDERFUL alien race creation rules) are my two
favorite GURPS supplements by a wide margin.

I try not to fill up people's emails with posts
that are little more than "good job" but thanks for
posting Dan! I really enjoy world / society creation
stuff (especially if it is reasonably terse).

	Rick

Traegor is the 3rd planet in this system. The planetary
data was developed using the random system generation
tables in GURPS Space.

Description: (General Knowledge, to be read to all players)

Known to the vast majority of its inhabitants as 'Traegor',
this planet is remarkably similiar to Earth in its size, shape
and appearance. Although it is generally cooler, the longer
seasons provide Traegorean farmers with the opportunity to get
two and sometimes three harvests each year. Once gone, however,
spring is a long time returning. The winters are often harsh
and severe, especially in the Northlands. None save the North-
men and Snowbeasts survive there for very long.
One of the most fascinating aspects of Traegor is the moons
which orbit the planet. There are 3 of them, each having a
primary hue: yellow, blue and red. Their combined light creates
unusual shadow effects and, according to the local sages, is
largely responsible for the existence of magic on Traegor. Some
have hinted at other reasons, but these are not given much
  credence.
Other features of the planet are just as fascinating. There
are rumors of great jungles to the south. There's the Lost
River, a large river which flows into a lake with a whirlpool
in the center. Far to the north are the Mountains of Mist and
Shadow and the Great Ice Desert. And, of course, there are
  the Firedrake Mountains.

  DM Info:

Traegor was inhabited a LONG time ago by a race of humans
who had a global society. However, they did not make it out
of the Cold War era and eventually destroyed themselves. The
ruins of their smaller cities can still be found.
The effect of the moons upon magic use is largely psycho-
logical. Wizards of great experience will come to understand
this. Use a wax and wane of ST costs until this is realized.
Actually, magic use on Traegor is the result of beneficial
mutation caused by the combination of radioactive fallout
and biochem agents released during the Great War. The war
is also responsible for the fantastic species currently in-
habiting Traegor - many of them mutated as they tried to
  adapt to the new environment.
