Re: (TFT) re: SOLO II

It should have been fairly easy to outrun the missile weapons. Every turn putting more distance between you and them, increasing their range modifiers. One or two monks may have been killed. The others would scoop them up and carry them. But you, Father Lubik should be dead. Statistically you should have been killed in the first two turns by a lightning bolt rod. The first attack, if it hit, would do an average fourteen points of damage. After iron flesh that leaves eight, enough to knock you down for the next entire turn. It only takes 3D vs. DX to scoop up and object on the run. Two monks should be able to do this and carry a body with them. Even after being scooped up and carried away the second lightning bold would do an average of ten or eleven points of damage. After armor this should have killed you. If you got very lucky, and actually got away then just before you reached the Garden behind The Cathedral, one of the youths with a heavy crossbow uses a wish to shoot you for triple damage and kills you from extreme range. No matter how well, or bad, the last fight went. Father Lubik is now dead and the monks got your body back to The Cathedral.

They hustle you through The Cathedral, out the front doors, and across the square. You are floating along, detached and watching. It is a curious experience watching your body being carried by weeping monks. They carry you into the police station in The Cabildo. The room is full of guard bustling with activity which all stops as they watch you being carried through. You follow the monks down the stairs to the basement. It is a morgue. They turn your body over to attendants who place it on a table and drape a cloth over it. The cloth is enchanted with a freeze spell. All decay and bleeding from your body stops. It is about two thirty in the morning. You have been dead for about ten minutes. On other tables are many other bodies, each draped with a freeze cloth. It seems you have been laid out next to the very vampire children that you and Roget slew earlier. It has been a very long night.

    You are a ghost.

This doesn't trouble you as you still have a sense of your mission. Your thoughts turn to curiosity about vampire rats hiding in the walls of buildings. The next instant you are floating
over Roget and some men.
They have set up a small portable iron smoke box. It has a pipe going into a hole they cut in the wall. Fed with charcoal it is pumping black smoke into the walls. Roget is speaking. ``I have never seen this before. I can hear them in the walls, but the smoke doesn't affect them.'' He looks concerned. You float into the walls and look. The rats are there between the wood and plaster. You can see that as vampires the regenerate much faster than the smoke can irritate them.

Your thoughts turn to the lady that may have been kidnaped earlier. The next thing you know, you are there floating over her. She is dressed in night clothes and tied to a bed. There are two female nurses there and an attending Master Physicker. He is talking to her while she groans. ``Your father, The Governor. You remember your father? He hired us to get you away from that man. He has you addicted to IQ potions.'' She is groaning like she's not listening but he continues. `` IQ potions. Did you know those thing are made from fresh human brains? We are going to detox you. Over see your recovery and then return you to your father.''

You think of the vampire kids who killed you and then you are there. The are standing around an elderly vagrant man. The leader is talking to him. ``We have finally decided to make you one off us, but first you have to do something. Take this bag. Go into the brewery and gather up all twelve crosses. Then throw them in the river. One of the crosses is hanging in the top of a chimney. You can find a ladder on the side walk across the street. Now go.'' The old vagrant looks over joyed that he is being welcomed into this family of children. He may or may not know what they mean by 'join' them. He rushes off with the bag to complete the task.

You float up over the city and get a clear picture of the surrounding marsh fires. They have spread through the night. Eating vegetation as they go. You feel warm and the sun peeks over the horizon heralding a new day. Down below you hear the bells of The Cathedral ringing. A force pulls you there. Inside The Cathedral you see the faithful have gathered in the pews. It is a record crowd of hundreds with people standing along the sides and walls. The central walk between the pews is laid with cloth covered bodies on stretchers. The bishop and several priests are leading the mass. Laid on the steps before the altar is your body. The cloth has been pulled back to reveal your face. You look completely undamaged. They must have summoned an angle and wished your body whole again. Now they are well into the ritual of revival. With all of the flock contributing one point of fatigue it will be an easy thing for the bishop to cast a one hundred strength revival. If they take fifteen minutes between rituals they can do this all day, reviving every body here. The faithful are praying in support, the bishop is reciting the words. You feel the pull grow stronger. Your body is now ready to be raised from the dead. It is not an irresistible force. You must now choose. Do you wish to be raised, or do you wish to remain a ghost. The rest of the adventure will follow one of these two paths.
