The Fantasy Trip.  It was an 'early' (mid-late seventies) gaming
system that is actually the predessessor to GURPS.  It started out as
a couple Steve Jackson Microgames, "Melee" for combat (swords, bows,
etc) and "Wizard" for magical combat.  TFT came out, republished
both, each in an expanded edition and tied them together with a Third
rulebook (mostly for the GM if I recall correctly).

It was a good system.  Adaptable to almost any campaign.. capable of
creating the kind of character you wanted instead of being stuck in
one of the "Classes" of AD&D.  It was more realistically lethal too.
You didn't end up with hero's who could stand there with 41 arrows
sticking out of their chest screaming war cries and slaughtering
monsters like cutting wheat.  You DID end up with highly skilled,
unique charachters that were fun to role play.
