Could one have a magic bow that cast an illusion spell of
sorts in the sense that it created illusionary arrows?
I assume this would allow it to have a faster firing rate,
omitting the need for arrow preparation and knocking etc.
Obviously it would be able to fire regular arrows as well
for disbelief.

Almost. A real bow could shoot an illusion of an arrow. But it wouldn't give an increased rate of fire. To quote the rules "since illusions are in part fed by the observers, an illusion will always act as the 'average' type of the thing it is." It would have made a Mac'n magic item though
