No it wasn't. That was what had impressed me the most about this film -
that he was able to "add" things without taking away from the essential
nature of the story. It would have been very easy to 'modernize' the story
to disasterous effects - but he made some amazingly acute decisions and
observations on the pacing of the story and I thought all of the things he
"added" like that worked very well. 

And of course, I somehow sold most of my Middle Earth modules long ago so
it would be very expensive to buy them again today to run in TFT!
