Re: (TFT) New Spell

From: "Cas and Lisa \(also Silvia, Max & Viveka\) Liber"

Dear DMG,
knoiwing what rule sticklers some players are I adjusted
to the following:

Paralyze smell(M): This missile spell makes it easier to sneak
up on vertebrates of IQ 7 or less....

Cas,
Now that's what I call a rule write up. Precise TFT grammar, several paths of use laid out, and the intention of the spell stated in the first line. Well done.

I have the following questions:

with Berserk, is the subject actually Berserk (i.e possibly
attacking frineds etc.?)

No. It's not the actuall berserk state. It just the berserk mushroom effects made directly into a spell. Immunity to stun or knockdown, but retaining discrimination between friend and foe.

Tail trip seems powerful for IQ 11 (?) higher IQ?

But I figured the Trip spell is only IQ 10. And the Trip spell is one of the most powerfull spells in the game. And one of the most overlooked. I have had one player throw a four hex dragon prone with that spell. Frequently dropping giants on their face. And even laughing at an armored knight charging with a lance. I figure that the Tail Trip is not thrown directly on the victim. It's restricted to rear and side hexes. And it paralels what dragons do with their own tails. My view is that the IQ 10 trip spell is the precedent for this IQ 11 one.

Wither - do subjects just look old or do they have adjDX & ST
penalties? and how long does it last.

I really don't know. I suspect that each GM has their own aging rules. Or they just don't use them. I'm a bit at a loss on this one. In fact I would love suggestions from anyone on how to limit the effects while still leaving it dramatic.

This and Growth and Small may be a bit powerful but I am not
sure........

Speaking of Growth and Small, here is the counterpart to Small...

IQ 13

Large(T): The spell will make strong characters into a multi-hex figure. The spell costs a minimum 2 points of fatigue. It costs 1 point per turn it is maintained. Use the following tables to determine the resulting size of the figure in hexes.

initial Fatigue spent
ST 2 4 6 8 10 12
