Now, stainless works fine for knives, but for swords the high chromium
content (which provides the rust resistance) the inevitable large grain size
renders the blade brittle. Again, for knives not a huge problem but a sword
is not a big knife - it sees stresses far and away beyond any knife, and if
made of stainless generally cannot survive any serious knocks.

Stick with good grades of carbon steel of some sort for any sword, unless it
is a wall hanger. And even if made of carbon steel, be sure you can trust
the manufacturer. Stuff out of India, while it can be all right, is usually
suspect. Pakistan is right out....
