AW says the following: "SHADOW (C) Fills one hex with totally black
shadow, extending some three meters into the air ..." So there you have
it, canon says that the "height" of a hex is 3 meters, or approx 10 feet.

Dan,
Sweet. Good enough for me. The 3m hex pillar it is. Now to dust of the world builder program, and re tool it.

Shadow may be 3m tall. Are you sure that, say, Fire, a molotail Fire (which IIRC are said to be equivalent somewhere), and Open Tunnel, are also 3m?

I think a 1-hex fire, or a molotail fire, would probably be more like 1m tall.

My thinking was always that hexes were infinitely "tall". A gargoyle flying directly over a man on the ground is in the same hex, but at a different altitude. Altitude has whatever precision is necessary. I think ITL mentions a standard height for tunnel levels, though.
