Re: (TFT) 5 hits or more

I read -5 DX (I'm going to call this 'stun') as lasting until it could affect an attack action by the stunned figure. If the figure does or does not attack at that time is unimportant to the duration of the stun. The possibility of the attack action is the clock tick when the stun expires. IF you have to save n/DX before that tick, the save is also at -5 to DX.

I deal with 8hits=knockdown similarly. He can stand on his next action. IF he hasn't already in the current turn done too much (run, charged, other 'large time' actions), that is. If he had charged, intending to swing a mace, and got knocked down before he could swing, then he cannot stand when the mace swing 'could have occurred', because there is no "Charge, get knocked down, and stand up" option listed. :)

The difference here is that a movement option (charge) can make a change of option to "Stand up" illegal. Compare to there being no "you already did something else" limit on the expiry of the -5 DX of being stunned.

I don't really think canon supports stun lasting beyond the next attack of the stunned figure. I do agree there is room for interpretation, though.

One of the problems with the timing of attacks in TFT is that if Mr. 10DX is stunned by Ms. 12DX, he's only stunned for 7 'ticks', but if Ms. 12DX is stunned by Mr. 10DX, she's stunned for 3 ticks, _plus_ a whole turn. (she doesn't recover until her next action, which is at DX7, but she's already taken her action before Mr. 10DX, so she's stunned until the _next_ DX7 tick. This is relatively unimportant if they are fighting each other one-on-one, but becomes tactically huge if either of them has allies that can cause n/DX saves during the period of stun.

I've given this matter a decent bit of thought, because I once designed a shadow/wraith sort of creature, which could cause a 'weak' state analogous to 'stun', and the exact duration of such a state was an important part of balancing the critter.

Ed,

I thnk that's the question: does "turn" mean next game turn or next option.
You seem to read it as option while others are reading it as game turn. I
think it could be played either way. Although, how would you play it if a
player received 8 points and was knocked down before he acted? Would you
allow him to stand up at his next option or wait until the next game turn?
Thanks.

Aidan
