(TFT) Economics in general

Economic craziness: Yes, agreed with Jay and Seth in spades!

I inflicted a small colony (four or five villages, one mine, problems from a
"menacing forest") on my players once. You need mature people to make it
work! I recall that campaign broke up when somebody (NPCs) opened a general
store in competition with the PCs... The PCs went and settled the "free
market" with Molotails and crossbows, which was humorous, but obviously they
got run out of their own town!

Not sure about the dagger / greatsword valuation controversy, but in general:
what was the great economic balancing? Anyone know Mr. Kaufman? Could he be
invoked to provide the background?

Anyone know any good games about developing a dungeon in terms of economics,
population and so on? I know that there are some out the for villages,
castles and the like...

BTW, glad to see your floods, Jay!! We don't have to agree with them to be
happy you're doing this!

Also Chivalry + Sorcery; it may be almost unplayable (though I managed to do
so...;-) ) but it's a SUPERB fantasy reference for 'historical' magic and
medieval economics...The last time I played [about 20 years ago)! the DM made
me
have to take care of running a manor house + several dozen NPC's to support my
poor knight. It was an eye opener even though I put the NPC's on 'cruise
control' 99% of the time. I had to make decisions on what to grow, etc., so
the
manor farm would make the most $, and juggle how much of a 'skim' I could take
from the manor income to feed + equip me without starving the peasants and
forcing a revolt...:-). Do I REALLY need that warhorse barding...??...:-).
