Re: (TFT) More on maps

As I recall, TFT (well, Melee) was actually designed as a tactical game intended to be played on a map.

One of the main reasons I originally started playing it.

Thanks for sharing some of your map-oriented gaming experiences, John!

I was just thinking about this, and why TFT would inspire interest in
map-oriented play, and other RPG's often don't, and I think it's pretty simple. TFT's combat system is very map-oriented and simple (and there are a few MicroQuests where the travelling on the map (even though it's not inaccurate) is a major element of play), so that simply by having a few
pages in ITL with an example campaign map
_showing_detailed_terrain_on_a_hex_grid_ and including travel rates for different road and terrain types, and rules for getting lost and random
encounters and the weight of costs food and other travel equipment, it
implies that travel and the map are major significant elements of play
that tie everything together.
