Killing isn't compulsory.
It all depends on how you (or the GM) choose to play.
Fighting to the last hp is for D&D. 
TuFTy gives you options.

For example;
Characters can allow or ask for quarter when wounded.
You can take prisoners, or be captured. 
If you're knocked down the fight's over but you're still alive.
You can run away or try to bargain your way out of trouble.

Allow 'stunning' damage, (Wounds taken as Fatigue ST untill U/C)

ITL gives many useful social and vocational talents.

You don't have to play a Fighter / Mage D&D class sterotype.

To tell the truth, I'm sick of the idea of killing to solve the problem.
Fantasy land should have  rules  agasinst killing...
