Played it for the first time this winter, with an excellent GM 
(thanks, Kirk!) and really enjoyed it.

We had a really really bad roll in the first few minutes of play, 
that continued to cost us throughout and finally led (IMHO) to our 
demise as a party. But we got a long way. The kids liked it, my High 
School friends liked it, much fun was had by all.

I don't think you'd find it a waste of time. But I would not take 
treasured characters into it lightly, if "dead is dead" in your 
campaign.
