Re: (TFT) House Rules?

I think that suggestion was from me (the levels one). That's another good
idea. Allow basic specialization to provide benefit X (be it reduced fatigue,
longer duration, whatever). Then, instead of automatically allowing a Dex
bonus, allow them to buy levels in 'Fire Sorcery' or whatnot, which increases
casting chance.
Not sure what the down side to non-specialist spells would be.
I do like the Talent Tree idea. Would it be, if you have X more on one Tree
than any other you trigger the specialization? That's probably how I'd handle
it, so you could avoid becoming a specialist by being very careful in
selecting spells.... and also by sacrificing a lot of higher IQ choices to
keep your slots evenly distributed.
Cheers,Matthew

Right, and that's a good thing, but personally I'd like to have not just more
spells (of one specific type) available to specialists, but relative ease of
casting spells inside their specialty, compared with spells outside it.

Maybe have a series of spells with various prerequisites for each element
(similar to what you mentioned), and when a character learned a certain number
of spells on a particular prereq tree (i.e. related to the same element), they
get +1 DX when casting those spells, or pay one less ST, or they can choose
between those two options. Hmm... I like it!

Someone proposed a similar idea with weapon skills, involving "levels" that
could be used to give various types of bonuses. Sort of a nice parallel to
that idea, for the Muggles in your campaign.

the system. The rules didn't say if you're a Fire wizard, you can only take
these. It was closer to if you take these, then you're a Fire wizard.
