(TFT) Campaign Idea

Hey guys, had an idea for a campaign:

its... 'sort-of' dark ages England... but think of it more like a fusion of King Arthur and Welsh mythology and more modern fantasy ideas (elves and dwarves and such.... though with those being heavily influenced by the Fay of myth). But none of that Arthur stuff has happened yet. Think of it more like.... a fantasy alternate history that could've inspired those myths, and with a slightly anachronistic spin to it all.

Now make it that (at the beginning) the characters are sort of lowly leaders of small bands of warriors... possibly in the same band. Not necessarily warriors, just adventurers, basically. But the game takes place over many years, so goes through multiple generations, with the characters (obviously) trying to gain power and influence (with the objective being that they each kinda gain their own dynasty to rule a small kingdom with). They'd continue to participate in regular adventures (plenty of room for a king to go off and fight some monsters... think Beowulf!), but intrigue would also start being important, as the kingdoms end up in competition, and possibly war. From there, you basically got a small little wargame with mixed in RPG elements (to replace the wargame mechanics that represent duels and diplomacy) and the occasional dungeon crawling (where the characters are more likely to collaborate).

However, the main 'oomph' of the campaign would be in the overarching 'plot,' where the fantasy realms are infringing on, colonizing the real world. There are the bad guys in this (evil elves, orcs, trolls, whatever) who are basically invading the 'normal' (still has magic, and i'm thinking maybe dwarves and some other fantasy elements would be part of the regular world apart from the encroaching fantasy realms) world, while you also have the more neutral but strange and aloof elves (who can perhaps be allied with), and perhaps even a 'good' side as well that is helping the normal world...

Anyway, the players would have to balance their own little kingdom's quest for power with the need to fight off the invaders (I'm thinking of adding some 'empire from across the sea' to be a sort of Roman Empire-like invader as well... or possibly even the Normans, if you date it as being more medieval than ancient), which would include much more of the traditional 'RPG quest' elements, though on a bit of a larger scale... not unlike a Lord of the Rings sort of situation.

Also, I'd be using Chain Reaction 3 Swordplay (by Two Hour Wargames... its free on the site for that company, you should probably take a look at it) to do the larger scale combats, with TFT being used for PCs and smaller scale combat (large scale here still wouldn't be that large, with small scale meaning a dozen participants being around maximum). You could probably even use the two simultaneously... I'm working on the conversions now to allow that.

So.... thoughts? anyone ever do anything similar? just a stupid idea i came up with in my (flu induced) idiocy that should never see the light of day? Any suggestions on how to run this?
