Re: (TFT) Experience for skills

I liked the compendium very much, its why I dont play gurps combat any more
:)
It showed me the gospel of the gurps combat system, which Ive been in
denial about during the few years i played it. blocking and parrying was
pretty much a useless mess

I forgot which one it was, but one number is one half your skill and the
other number was one third your skill.

I think there are 2 or three types of damage per weapon.

so if your shield skill was 12, then your block was 6 or 8... nearly
impossible to do, unless you are on the SCA battle field in which case your
shield saves your life most of the time. and if your sword skill is 14
then your parry was 5 or 7 or 8, forget which one, which again is useless
in the game.

 you could parry
your opponent could critical
you could parry a crititcal
you could critical parry?
your damage could pierce, or cut or smash.
you could do critical damage but you have to look up what happens for each
the list goes on.

The fixes to 4th edition repair the potential hemorraging DX skills in 3rd
edition. (high DX plus high DX modifiers from easy and medium skills. They
did this buy upping the cost of DX stat which is good.

But then, you need more skill points to build the same character...

sigh...
