Re: [Slope: Ch 12] SJ has weighed in on Unarmed Combat Talents.

Hi Jeff,
I was pointing out what would change in my campaign.  It is
hard to say exactly what the UC talents will end up with.

I’ve not seen any sign that SJ is thinking about making an
exception for one handed weapons like Nunchucks.

I’ve got a few UC guys in Leather armor, so we will have to
work something out.

Well, there is a bit more to it than Rick indicates -- for example, Steve is talking seriously about lowering the IQ requirements for all UC's, as well as reducing the cost per level somewhat, though he may choose to offset those lower costs with an increased DX requirement for some of the talents.  In short, there's a lot more going on than is stated here.  Also, the "totally disarmed" statement below may be overstated since Steve said his original "intent" was that, but then the discussion of Bruce Lee and Nunchuks began (which has some gravitas because Steve said the inspiration for UC-V was as much Bruce Lee as any "real world" fighters) began...  So I wouldn't necessarily consider anything set in stone just yet.

I think UC I should be seen as just brawling, not mystic martial arts, and should work in armour. And maybe think about what UC II represents. Otherwise I guess I like these changes. Though they don't fix the Jean-Claude the genius effect: that a martial artist can easily pick up mathematical and scholarly pursuits, or become a theologian.
