I ran "Runes of the New World" in three separate stints as an email
game.  It works well, TFT is lighter than most systems, and the chargen
can be done quickly.

I also wanted the deadliness of TFT over the other choices.

I've been in several TFT email games, usually heavy with house rules. 
RONW also had house rules.
