(TFT) elvish licentiousness
I've been playing Majesty (simcity crossed with warcraft II), Jay's post on
builidings prompting me to cogitate about this. The elves in this game are
'free spirited' and when you start recruiting elves in your city, a gambling
den and 'elven lounge' (read bordello/brothel) pop up in your city to
distract your heroes.
In the 70s I got a book on faeries by Nancy Arrowsmith which listed hundreds
of fairies from all over Europe and many races and folktales were noteworthy
for loose morals. (I remember a bawdier folktale about a maiden and seven
dwarves).
Interestingly, this element of elvish nature has been lost since Tolkien,
whose elves (apart form the sons of Feanor) were noble and true (come to
think of it though, I can't think of one case of adultery in the whole of
Tolkiens literature...can anyone?)
I guess an elvish quarter with elements of this could be reintroduced into a
campaign (elvish prostitutes having a rather low chance of impregnation
which gives them an advantage over human counterparts; the frequency of
their unions resulting in signficant numbers of mixed-up half elves.
An elvish quarter could yield teachers of Sex Appeal and Charisma, as well
as alchemist specialising in love potions etc. Glamour was always big in
fairy folktales too, though then again, the elves that generally cast it
were unseemly dusky or dark elves (traditional, not RPG term here), so maybe
that would be the preserve of hobgoblins, svarts, orcs or dwarves.
Just some thoughts......
