Re: (TFT) Thoughts on Cidri (Jen Mnoren)
    Finding that gate between worlds
Here is a sentence fragment from IN THE LABYRINTH. ?. . . conquered
three hundred seventy-one alternate Earths.? The emphasis here seems to be
on the word alternate. This many parallel realities, occasionally connected
by gates, goes a long way in explaining how an Earth type environment could
have so many continents and so much land mass.
A bit of fiction to this point.
Three young children at the college of magic accidentally make a major
discovery. They are friends who specialize in different areas. During
their breaks they go walking through the gardens and woods of the college
teaching each other what they had learned that day. Knowing each other well
they are able to explain things clearly and each is learning a lot more than
one could alone.
They are studying spells, and high IQ ones at that, so what they were
learning from each other is theory more than applaud ability, but it was
enough. Joe is dedicated to Astral Projection. He is willing to graduate
with low ST and DX. He wants to be able to go into the Astral Projection
business where ?distance is not barrier? (AW page 15). Eric is into
Telepathy. He believes that with Telepathy people can share a lot more
knowledge with a lot more detail in almost no time. He hope one day to be
an instructor for the wizard?s guild that teaches people new spells (AW page
10) and helps them forget old ones (ITL page 29). It was Eric who started
the sharing of knowledge with his two friends. Lastly there is Norm who is
not a full wizard as he only has a ?small ability with magic? (AW page 3)
and is studying Mathematician, which includes algebra. He knows there is
some way his math will be able to help wizards.
This day was a little different. Norm was able to make his DX roll to
cast the only spell he knows on Joe, Aid. With some extra points of ST Joe
actually made his DX roll and cast Astral Projection, without the help of
his Teachers (not permitted actually but they were in the woods). During
those two turns Eric made his DX roll twice and was able to cast Telepathy
on Joe and Norm They wanted to see what the Astral Plane looked like. With
minds linked up, they gave their eyes to Joe who then left his body.
They?re thrilled. Joe takes them on a tour of the Moon. They look
back at the Earth and the breathlessness of its color against that pure
black of space. So many stars. So many stars everywhere. They are
giggling, and time is up, Eric?s little Strength Battery is dry and he can
only maintain two Telepathy spells for 3 more turns. They saw clearly as
Joe rushed back to his body the exact Place on Earth that they were.
Each one opened his eyes and just blinked at the other. Having just
left a three way telepathic link they don?t say a word. They can still read
the emotions on each others faces. This will have to be done again!
Months of this goes by. Sometimes they can only do it once a month,
sometimes once a week. For mere seconds of real time, they step out of time
and look back on it. It is almost an addiction, and starts to fill their
dreams.
Then it happened. Norm casts Aid on Joe. Joe, having delayed, casts
Astral Project. Eric casts Telepathy on Joe. The next turn Eric casts
Telepathy on Norm and rolls triple damage. Just at the moment all three of
them are linked, the each hear the faint thoughts of an elf.
?An elf?? Thinks Eric. ?What in the world is an Elf??
?Its coming from this soft spot in reality that way? thinks Norm.
?I see it.? Thinks Joe. ?Lets get closer.?
They move to a slight faintness in the astral plane, and yes, the
thoughts get a little stronger. The Elf seems to be on the other side of
it.
?No problem? thinks Norm ?This is a job for Algebra. There is another
reality than just this one and the astral plane must be the equal sign
between them. Let?s match our thoughts to the pattern of the Elf and see if
we can work the equation to see what is on the other side.? They did. The
algebra looks tangible in their minds eye. Their home reality looks liquid
and fluid as they work both sides of the equation. Then they run out of ST
and it is over.
Just like that. Pop. They?re back in the woods. sitting in a circle
holding hands with an Elf. Language is a bit of a barrier so they take him
to see one of the Wizard masters who has Telepathy and hasn?t spent all of
his fatigue for the day. As they are walking to his office with the Elf,
the college comes to a halt. Everyone just stares. People are casting
disbelief (unauthorized illusion outside of the circle) and it doesn?t work.
One student with mage sight screams and runs away. By the time they know
on the door of the master, there is a huge ruckus going on.
And this is just the begining. The joint paper they wrote was signed
by their initials, and credited with the college of their studies. This is
the end of that story and the beginning of another. We leave our readers
with the signature at the end of their Thesis paper.
    ?J.E.N. of the college Mnoren?

P.S. sorry about the style, I?m not too gifted at this kind of story.
