Hey Terry,
	If you look thru the archives of this mail 
list you will see, that people were working out
how a group of swordsmen would do against a
spear wall. A number of similar problems were
debated with calvary taking on groups of foot 
men who were armed differently.

	The facing rules mean that hiting the
enemy from the side and rear is useful. With
bigger groups, you can form a ring. Then of
course the enemy will use the retreat rules to 
try to open a path into the ring.

	Another way to break a wall is have a
hero jump a defender in hand to hand combat.
However, there is a 1/6 chance that you will be
hacked down like a dog if you try that.

	Using the optional rules you can strike
at your enemies' weapons. So when facing a 
spear wall, you can try to chop off the heads of
the pikes.

	Those are the ones that spring to mind.
