Why would you allow someone to start with 40 pts?

In the TFT games that I run (even the campaigns), I routinely start player characters out at 36-39 points. Its not like you got to clear this with Steve Jackson or Howard Thompson. Unless your running an exacting incremental game, why not start them out at higher point values. Its just a game. None of my players complained that they were being cheated of an adventure. They seemed to be damned glad they could get some of the talent/stats they wanted.

Again, though, only if the GM can handle it.

Another aspect of starting someone off as a higher character versus forcing them to run up from 32 points. I've played in D&D one-nighters where I just popped in on an already running game. The DM gives me his NPC character which would be the equivalent of a 38point character. He says this is your character, not this is my NPC that you are running. If I played the following nights with this group, this would be MY character, getting all the experience points and thrills of the game. If I wanted, that character would permanently be mine. The DM didn't go castrating him down to the 32 point equivalent.

Oooh boy, I seem to have gotten my ire up again. Sorry 'bout that.
Hi Eric. Thanks for contributing. : )

Hail Melee.
