RE: (TFT) Test of general MELEE knowledge, NUMBER II
Hi all,
First I follow the lay of the hex grid
and don't count hexes. (Note that two of my
players who also GM TFT disagree with me on
this.) Thus sometimes you get +1 hex of range
for your creations and sometimes you get -1
hex range. It evens out in the long run.
Second, with creation spells, ALL of the
creation must be in the creation spell range,
so what the wizard is doing is illegal.

Subject: (TFT) Test of general MELEE knowledge, NUMBER II
To all,
A sleeping wizard is ambushed by a slinker. The rat-monkey sits
there for a few turns looking at the sleeping figure. His little
head bobbing up and down. He notices a very bright gem and decides
to take it. He moves onto the wizard (easily making his DX 14 roll
to move over a body) and scoops up the gem (spending 3 MA to do it on the
run). Having snatched the gem he scampers away.
The wizard was awakened by his strength battery being yanked
from around his neck. He could feel the little feet pounce off of
him and sees this mini-monkey thing runing off down the corridor.
Here is the setup.

Now this is the slinkers movement. His move is written in
numbers. These represent how much of his MA 14 he has spent.

The wizard decides that there is no point in trying to move so
he stays put. He knows he can cast a spell prone at no DX minus.
But a slinker is hard to hit. Any attack against a slinker is DX
-3. So instead of shooting a lightning bolt at it, with additional
minuses for range, he casts 7-hex fire.
7-hex fire is a creation spell. The wizard can target any hex
in his own mega meag hex. From there the wizard will trail the
hexes of fire in a straight line toward the slinker. On the turn a
fire hex is created it only does 2 points of damage, but the slinker
only has ST 2 so this should kill it.
Below is show the wizards target hex (T) and the other six hexes
of fire (f)

O.K. Here's the problem. The hex the wizard choose to target is
outside of his mega mega hex. By the lay out of the mega hexes one
can clearly see that his target hex is in the first hex of the
second mega hex.
The player of the wizard argues that HE IS the center of the mega
mega hex. Not the arbatrary shape of the melee hex grid. He
further argues that magic is not tied to the lay of the land but
comes from his strength, so he should be able to target the
indicated hex.
How would you rule?
