Longer than any of us will. In the US, for works created after 1977, it lasts
for the life of the author + 70 years. I won't even begin to talk about my
views on this outrage.
Now interestingly, there is a provision in copyright law whereby even a
supposedly permanent assignment of copyright to a third party may be of
legally limited term. This only applies in certain cases, depending on the
original arrangements between the author and the publisher. If TFT falls into
that category, the rights to the various TFT items may begin automatically
reverting to Steve Jackson within the next five years. But even if that
happens, I have no idea whether Jackson will have any more interest in doing
anything with TFT than Howard does.
