Robert,Apparently a mature colony is 400,000 strong. More common though is flood. Usually effective in controling ant populations, floods actually speed up the spread of fire ants. They are the most effective ant in making rafts of themselves. A swarming cluster that floats on water and will colonize the first high ground it hits.
