(TFT) Question to list --> contests.

Hi Everyone,
	I couple months I posted a suggestion
that contests in TFT could be roll X dice
(based on attribute). Then the number of
high dice is how much you win the contest
by. If the top dice are tied (if both
people got 3 sixes for example) then the
next highest dice are used.

I've tried this in my campaign since
that post... and it works so - so.

So I ask the list, what would be a
good way of resolving a contest between
two characters. (A contest is when both
people are directly competing against
each other.)

	Some suggestions:
	-----------------
1)	Each side rolls 3d6 vs. attribute.
If both make it or both fail, then it is
a tie. Otherwise who ever made the roll
wins. Problem, if both characters are
high attributes, it can go on a long
time and it is total luck as to who rolls
an auto failure first.
GURPS uses this system, except that
you subtract enough from the highest att.
person to bring them down to a 14, and
the same amount from the lower attribute.
This tends to be very hard on the lower
attribute person and feels 'clunky'.

2)	Both sides roll 3vsAtt as above.
But if both make it, look to see who made
the roll by the largest margin wins. The
disadvantage is that a person who has even
a 3 or 4 point advantage will virtually
always win. (This is the reason why I
have been looking for something better,
I would like weaker figures to have more
of a chance.)

3)	Multiply the attribute score by 1d6.
The highest value after multiplication
wins the contest. Problems, it may be a
too random and does not fit into TFT
meta rules.

4)	The Sorcerer RPG version (described
above). Roll lots of dice and use number
of high dice to find who wins and show
degree of victory. The main problem is
rounding up enough dice, and it slows
down things a bit as people organize the
dice. Also it does not fit into the TFT
meta rules.

System 2 above has got my reluctant
nod for now, but I still wish that the
weaker side was not hosed so badly. Can
anyone help me out with a suggestion?

	Rick
