And the additional bonus I awarded was virtually automatic (-3) loss of
initiative from wagon noise.

Travel through mountains in good weather was four times slower.

If you have a Woodsman, you can travel and "live off the land".  Implied by
ITL pg. 14

So, the wagon was usually full of fly-covered bloody armor and leftover short
swords, not rations.  (Hence the occasional bonus encounter with a
scavenger/carnivore pack arriving at sundown).
