    well ... what I was originally thinking when I proposed this speeding
    up process was to allow healing potions that are chemical based to
    heal the drinker at a rate of 2 ST/day (as opposed to 1 ST/day).

    using a healing balm or ointment (such as hurtloam, from "The
    Chronicles of Thomas Covenant" by Stephen Donaldson) would
    allow a faster rate of healing as it could be applied topically.
    hurtloam wouldn't be very good against systemic problems such as
    some infections, poisons, etc.

    alchemical healing potions (which are magical in nature) might indeed
    work by aging the victim.  After all .. nothing is for free ....
