I ordered a double DVD of the series "Prehistoric America" from Amazon.  It is an excellent set of documentaries on Ice Age and Post-Ice Age North America.  It features a lot of 3D renderings of terrain as well as re-enactments of scenes with extinct animals and prehistoric people.  Definitely an inspiration for the GM.

called "After the Ice".  It is really interesting
read, tho it does not have the detailed maps you
are looking for.
