Hi all, John.
Nice question. For my campaign:

local politics often fall to them. Given that humans
are always in heat, the sex trade is almost exclusively
their purview.

as fences and heavies for crime lords.

are SO MANY trees and they grow back so quickly that
my elves are not the typical 'Greens'. They harvest
the weaker / sick trees and sell the wood.) The elves
do prevent the mass chopping of forests for making
charcoal so they are Greens in that sense.

alchemists (in mining many chemical and alchemical
processes are needed. This expertise & equipment can
be used to make many other salable goods.)

(traditionally an evil race) could not lie. But given
this, they have become the bankers and master traders as
their word is their bond in a land of chaos.
