(TFT) Rick wrong about Hexs??? Rick fights back like a rabid, wounded weasel.

Hello Everyone,
Mr. Tim Allan, privately pointed out
that there was an error in my calculations
since it was exactly 4 meters from the
center of a Megahex to a megahex. What a
gentleman he is to tell me I suck off a
public list!!! Wow, I am really impressed.

However, there is no need. I hereby
announce that anyone can say I suck right
out in public. Anyway, I got his permission
to post his message and my reply.

I have long ago worn out my paper map from
wizard and now use a soft Chessex Battlemap.
It uses a different scale so my numbers
won't correspond to yours exactly.

Melee hexes are defined to be 1 and 1/3
meters from center dot to center dot.
This makes a Mh 4 meters across but NOT
4 meters from the center of one Mh to the
next because they are offset slightly so
that they will pack more closely.

  For example:

Using my Chessex map the width from one
side of a Mh to the next is: 7.55 cm.

(This is also the distance of 3 Melee
hexes, from center dot to center dot, ALONG
THE HEX GRAIN.)

But the distance from the center dot to
the center of an adjacent Mh is: 6.65 cm.

The shorter distance is because the center
dots are ALMOST along the alternate hex
grain. (They are half a hex off of being
exactly on the alternate hex grain.)

Your numbers will vary of course. My
point is if in the rules somewhere, some
one has said that from Mh center to Mh
center is exactly 4 meters then either
they are wrong or the 1 & 1/3 meter from
hex to hex is wrong. They both can't be
right.

  ***************************************

So out of bloody mindedness I searched
for where it gives the size of a hex being
1 & 1/3 meters. Basic Melee does not have
it...

In DotU page 1 of the Combat Module it
says that a hex is 1 & 1/3 meters across.
(I think it also said this in Basic Wizard
but I can't find that rule book right now.)
In ITL page 18, first column, 3rd paragraph
it says:

"... The map scale [of a labyrinth hex]
equals 4 meters. One labyrinth hex is equal
to a Melee scale megahex grouping of seven
1 & 1/3 meter hexes."

So there you go, the rules contradict
themselves in a single paragraph.

I'm guessing that Steve Jackson figured
that no one would catch him in the lie!
But after 26 years he has been found out!!!
Ha!!! The truth will come out, no matter
how deeply you try to hide it!!! Or... or...
just maybe... he is not such a geek as me...
... naaaaaa.

  Warm regards, Rick.
