Re: (TFT) Six Attributes
Kirk,
It's both Todd and Aidan- long story. I answer to either and, being a
lawyer, I also answer to many other names not fit for mixed company. ;-)
We used the six attributes for quite a while but I wouldn't say it's better
than the three attributes; just gives character creation a different feel.
We found it gave characters some flexibility without too much additional
complexity. ST becamse Strenght (muscle) and Health/Constitution; DX became
"to hit" and "agility", which gave an offensive and defensive aspect to the
DX; and IQ was intelligence and wisdom/knowledge as I explained before. It
didn't necessarily make the game more realistic, it just addressed some
annoying little things like the high ST wizard who was a strong as a high ST
barbarian although the former isn't supposed to be as "strong" as the latter
because he studies all the time. The wizard could increase his spell
point/fatigue attribute without becoming muscle-bound. One thing we tried,
in order to keep things "honest", was to allow only a certain point
difference between the sub-attributes. So your Strength (muscle) had to be
within 5 pts of your health/constitution; otherwise, you get the super
strong guy with an 20 strength but a constitution/health of 10, which I must
confess felt "unrealistic".
I'm sure we goofed around with the idea of spell points too but I can't
remember. TFT is fun to experiment with. I really like TFT the way it is
and it probably doesn't need to be changed too much except it could use a
few more spells. There are a few things that could be tinkered with. I have
a copy of GURPS and GURPS Traveler but I've not played either one. I'm
working on a little TFT scenario for some friends and I'm sticking with the
rules as written.
May it be blessed,
Aidan

Subject: (TFT) Six Attributes
Todd/Aidan?
What you are describing sounds a lot like the more "realistic" game that I
saw coming out of a Kennel in south Austin called GURPS (excuse me!).
Played it, tried to like it, but don't. Lots of reasons why, but no
matter.
......one of the player character attributes was p*nis length! :O I had
to sit and think on that a
bit, since everything in the game was measured in feet.
