Some Technologies serve to give new materials for fashoning items and equipment.
Stone age maces improve progresively as the materals improve.
Some Tehcnologies serve to open new Jobs on the Job Tables of the area.
Some Technologies serve to allow the compleation of new structures and Map improvements, often necessary for new Jobs produce.
Some Technologies allow control over "Global Variables" like Population.
Some Technologies allow direct manafestation of an effect within the gameworld in the same manner as an ability or Spell.
Potions are the best example of this.
A Sci-Fi example is Grenades.
Some Technologies can be viewed as Victory Conditions.
In Civ, Invention starts the Renasance.
If this is a Protags Goal then they Win if/when they aquire Invention.
Algebra
Tomes are written on a poorly understood subject.
A few pages serve for that which is given.
Perhaps the Talent structure should be reversed?
DMG's idea first for me.
Mountain instead of tree.
Tree Technologies, Mountain Talents.
As so.
Each Technology is a peak, as in Warrior Code is a peak concept in the idea of Melee.
A Warrior is a "Master at Arms", or understands weapons i.e. knows many weapon Talents.
This seems to synthesize into a Rambo/Conan/Hero ideal which might culminate in a Tec called Warrior Code that would allow a Player whos Figure is the King to build new Units assuming a critical number of the Population persues "Master at Arms" type Jobs.
Now we're AGAIN on the question of style.
Are Leaders Kirk or Picard?
I say both can function in this setup.
Talents say much about a gameworld.
The TFT Talent list is only a suggestion.
It's not compleate.
Missle Weapons allow Archer Units, etc.
Prototypes as Magic Items.
