Throw/Hit/Place/Slugging are given in fps
Throw = ST in hexes per second
Hit = x2 ST in hexes per second
Place = 0.75 * Hit in fps / 4.3 = hexes per second (hps) * 5 = hexes per melee
round (hpt)
Slugging = Place + Throw in fps / 4.3 = hps * 5 = hpt
MA and Running are given in hpt
ST - half-effort 2d, normal 3d, max 4d, +5% per +1d up to +30% or +6d
DX - hex 1d, half-hex 2d, quarter-hex 3d (about 4.5ft^2 or roughly the same
area as the strike zone), 8th hex 4d (high or low in the zone), 16th hex 5d
(picks corner of zone, about 1 head in area, or about the size of a glove,
~1ft^2 ), +1d per 6 hexes distance of target.
Reaction = 5 seconds / (DX # + IQ #)
MA / Reaction = MA ratio
The earliest written records of a Baseball-like game appear by the 1600's in
England.
Know by many different names, such as Rounders, or Townball (a variant
involving entire villages as teams to confirm a recent post I recall), these
games exemplified the practice of plugging or soaking a runner to put them out
of play by actually hitting the runner with the ball before a base is
reached.
It seems most historians accept that the defining difference between these
games and Baseball type games is rules for tagging out runners.
I have info in the World Book that credits The Knickerbocker Base Ball Club of
NYC in developing these rules between the 1830's to the 1840's.
It seems to me that rules were agreed upon on a game to game basis during the
formative era.
Kindda like agreeing on weapons and such for a duel.
So here's a brief history of the evolution of the rules.
The Knickerbocker Base Ball Club of NYC incorporated 1845, by Alexander
Cartwright.
* indicates agreement with current rules
1845 - *Tagging out runners, *90' between bases, 45' pitchers mound to home,
underhand pitch, 3 strikes = out, strike = swing and miss, *9 players
fielding, runner out if ball caught on the fly or first bounce, first team to
lead by 21 runs at the end of an inning wins.
June 19th, 1846 The Knickerbocker Base Ball Club of NYC played The New York
Nine.
The New York Nine won 23 to 1.
During the game the first fine was accessed to the tune of .06 cents for
swearing at an #^&*@! umpire.
1848 - Tagging 1st base on groundball to put runner out.
1854 - Force outs.
1857 - *9 inning games
1864 - No out on first bounce fair balls.
1869 - Called strikes.
1869 - Cincinnati Red Stockings pay all players.
1876 - National League formed
1879 - Batter walks after 9 balls.
1881 - 50' pitching distance.
1883 - No out on foul ball caught on first bounce.
1884 - *Overhand pitching.
1889 - *Batter walks after 4 balls.
1893 - *60.5' pitching distance.
1900 - American League formed, Beginning of the "modern era".
1920 ended the "dead ball era.
1958 modern stadiums w/325' foul lines.

And blah blah blah.
