Yes I find hexagontal tiling to create problems with the grain, and even
spiraling as one climbs up scale. Putting in a grid layer to break the spiral
is fine enough. I've moved to using some irrgular hexes, even alternating 5
and 6 sideds like a soccer ball. Here is an image that shows one tile I use
sometimes to build up a large space.
