(TFT) blade vs. ?

Right on, Mark! What I like about TFT is even though it doesn't dwell on
nitpicky details, there is cleverly built in an understanding of the bell
curve and adds vs. subtracts etc. for things. Maybe only math nuts and
nerds understand the beauty in this, but it really was what made me fall in
love with this system when it came out, and partly maybe because I was just
starting my college math studies.

But anyway, I always see that normally the blades/swords in TFT are slightly
better weapons than axes or otherwise at low armor values, and progressively
better as the armor increases, as you show in your quick analysis. In
general, a blade takes more skill to use and is also the more expensive
weapon, sometimes by quite a bit. This seems to work in the game, as well,
as many ne'er-do-wells such as orcs etc. typically wield the cruder and
cheaper weapon, axe, etc., while the guys in white hats usually can afford
the more "elegant" and somewhat more sophisticated bladed one, even at 5 or
10 times the cost. That said, sometimes there is a value in not rolling a 2
with a cutlass against a non-armoured opponent armed with a battleaxe and a
remaining strength of 4!
