the Apple Macintosh (128k) features an 8 MHz 68000 processor, 128k of RAM
Dimensions: 13.6 x 9.6 x 10.9 inches, Avg. Weight: 16.5 lbs
Apple iPad Specs
the device is 9.56" tall and 7.47" wide, with a depth of just 0.5" and a
weight of 1.5 pounds. Units with the 3G option weigh 1.6 pounds.
On average, to construct the great pyramid in about 20 years requires moving
and setting into place a 2.5 ton 5 by 8 by 12 foot block every 90 seconds,
or just over 900 ST per foot per second to move about a 1 by 2 by 4 hex
average sized pyramid block.
At 1g per bill half a million dollars in 100s weighs over 10 lbs, or about 2
ST per foot per second, or about 4 ST for normal walking pace, so when
Georgie boys friend told him that 10 pounds was half a million bucks in the
movie Blow when they had too much money to count he was ripping him off by
over 4,500 bucks a pound.
"Most Illustrious Lord, Having now sufficiently considered the specimens of
all those who proclaim themselves skilled contrivers of instruments of war,
and that the invention and operation of the said instruments are nothing
different from those in common use: I shall endeavor, without prejudice to
any one else, to explain myself to your Excellency, showing your Lordship my
secret, and then offering them to your best pleasure and approbation to work
with effect at opportune moments on all those things which, in part, shall
be briefly noted below.
I have a sort of extremely light and strong bridges, adapted to be most
easily carried, and with them you may pursue, and at any time flee from the
enemy; and others, secure and indestructible by fire and battle, easy and
convenient to lift and place. Also methods of burning and destroying those
of the enemy.
I know how, when a place is besieged, to take the water out of the trenches,
and make endless variety of bridges, and covered ways and ladders, and other
machines pertaining to such expeditions.
If, by reason of the height of the banks, or the strength of the place and
its position, it is impossible, when besieging a place, to avail oneself of
the plan of bombardment, I have methods for destroying every rock or other
fortress, even if it were founded on a rock, etc.
Again, I have kinds of mortars; most convenient and easy to carry; and with
these I can fling small stones almost resembling a storm; and with the smoke
of these cause great terror to the enemy, to his great detriment and
confusion.
And if the fight should be at sea I have kinds of many machines most
efficient for offense and defense; and vessels which will resist the attack
of the largest guns and powder and fumes.
I have means by secret and tortuous mines and ways, made without noise, to
reach a designated spot, even if it were needed to pass under a trench or a
river.
I will make covered chariots, safe and unattackable, which, entering among
the enemy with their artillery, there is no body of men so great but they
would break them. And behind these, infantry could follow quite unhurt and
without any hindrance.
In case of need I will make big guns, mortars, and light ordnance of fine
and useful forms, out of the common type.
Where the operation of bombardment might fail, I would contrive catapults,
mangonels, trabocchi, and other machines of marvelous efficacy and not in
common use. And in short, according to the variety of cases, I can contrive
various and endless means of offense and defense.
In times of peace I believe I can give perfect satisfaction and to the equal
of any other in architecture and the composition of buildings public and
private; and in guiding water from one place to another.
I can carry out sculpture in marble, bronze, or clay, and also I can do in
painting whatever may be done, as well as any other, be he who he may.
Again, the bronze horse may be taken in hand, which is to be to the immortal
glory and eternal honor of the prince your father of happy memory, and of
the illustrious house of Sforza.
And if any of the above-named things seem to anyone to be impossible or not
feasible, I am most ready to make the experiment in your park, or in
whatever place may please your Excellency - to whom I comment myself with
the utmost humility, etc."
It always bothered me that the bronze for his 24' tall, 70 ton equine
single-cast bronze statue was requestioned for cannons.
The cannon made during this time could have had barrels exceeding 10 ft (3.0
m) in length, and could weigh up to 20,000 pounds (9,100 kg) but the largest
pieces were made of wrought iron bars pound-welded together and banded round
like a barrel, the cast bronze pieces tended to be smaller, so let's call
them 10,000 lbs. or 14 guns.
Or is it?
Bell bronze comes in at a ratio of around three parts copper to one part
tin. Gun-metal bronze is more like 9:1 or about three times the copper
content. Split the diffrence at 6:1 and were still talking several more guns
diffrence with the addition of more copper to strengthen the bronze. We
wouldn't want a Liberty Bell situation, although bronze and wrought iron
tend to split when breached, unlike cast iron that tends to shatter...
At 5g per coin this is over 180,000 coins per ton of copper (the old copper
penneys weigh about 3.11 grams each with about 145 per pound or around
300,000 per ton).
When target shooting a bow, the rule of thumb is 1" off of aim equals 1 yard
off of tatget at 50 lbs. draw and 50 yards distance.
So check this out.
If you take a sheet of graph-paper and erase every other row of lines and
redraw them so that each square has 6 squares around it like a hex pattern
by off-setting the top/bottom running sides 50% then each ring off of the
"target square" is an additional 6 squares... or +6... or a die.
A miss rolls the number of dice equal to the number they missed by to
determine where the miss went, count squares clockwise from the square above
the aim-square equal to the number missed by.
Equipment modifies the "miss ring" like bi/tri-pods, etc.
I use a Scale-hex square where each side is 1/16th the length of a TFT hex
from side to side on 1/4 inch graph-paper as "target-squares".
This is a square about 3.25 inches on a side or about 10.5 square inches
which is roughly the size of the palm of your hand...
