MHO I figure that ya should understand the frame of what your trying to do
as a GM and be able to explain this to your players ahead of time, before
play starts.
...
I want to hear about how starmetal relates to mithril realtes to iron.
Have you ever seen a movie called "The Gods Must Be Crazy"?
In an enviroment w/o metal...

I love "The Gods Must Be Crazy"!
I saw it in its theatrical run, and owned the Betamax version (both the movie, and I, are getting old).
in TFT a world with little metal gets you security station (my favorite old Cidri microquest - grail quest is in its own league, IMO).
as to black iron. mithril, and starmetal, they are all different.
Using iron as the base
Iron is heavy and strong
silver is heavier, and not strong
black iron is heavy and significantly stronger, but harder to work, and uncommon
mithril is lighter and strong, and decorative, and does not rust, and is rare
starmetal is heavy and soft, and green in hue, but takes to magic very well, even when alloyed, and is exceedingly rare. makes items easier to enchant, and some believe encourages magical ability
not all of this is common knowledge, especially the starmetal bits.
