Hi Jay,

I tend to roll dice at any opportunity, or let the players roll their own.
I find it helps keeps them awake...
:o)

Dice rolling is to RPG's what button pushing is to video gameing...
More less than more, but still...

If the dice fall in the expected area, things go according to plan
Mostly I can ignore the exact dice results unless they are extreme crit or fail.
I just see where the bones fall and take it as a Tarot guide.

I'd be curious about what you think about how I use the dice in the sprinting examples.
Assuming you can read the thing through all the 'short-hand' notation.

I'm still puzzling over your Goblin Port north west of Hull.
As (my) Hull is inland from the East Coast (North Sea/German Ocean), the North West coast would be across country on the Irish Sea.
There are inland waterways and river ports which may suit.

Yeah,
Locating a fictional map on the Earth requires a bit of poetic license.
I was thinking the Pennines well above the Aire Gap up in the Yorkshire Dales would be the goblin mountains to the west.
Maybe Barnard Castle is Lake Shore?
Having never been there I'd sure be interested in what you think about such a location.

Of course, goblin settlements don't appear on human maps...

Of course we could call the goblins welshmen... ;-}
Speaking of... and seeing as I've been talking about running.

Huw Lobb beats a field of men and horses over a course of 22 miles in Screaming Lord Sutch's race?
I must admit to being a bit slobber-knocked when this poped up.

My earliest map of Yorkshire is from 1577.
It shows hills forests, towns villages and rivers. But no roads, just river bridges...

Coolness, I love old maps, and not just because the copyrights have expired.
It sounds like a Count in Yorkshire in the mid to late 16th century has a lot of infrastructure projects that need doing.
At least from a modern perspective.

I'll dig up my notes and see if I can throw out some more stuff on this.
I'll tie it on a float and see if it makes it to the mouth of the Humber... lol =====
