Re: Change (was: (TFT) Jobs table: ...)
Scientists are also pretty different from wizards...
Whatever a scientist is studying is unlikely to end up being very
useful.
Any time a wizard ends up figuring out how whatever he studied works,
he can now USE it effectively, more or less free of cost... and it
tends to be much more powerful than most things a scientist can ever
find out.
What does it take for a wizard to start using a fireball?
A little studying, a little energy, and there you go. Fireball. Deadly
weapon. Usable at any time. Better than gun, in many ways.
What would it take for science to make the same?
Find the right materials to make explosives (takes time), learn the
best way to mix them (takes time), so on.... how long did it take for
bombs to be invented?
And they're still not replenished by resting, you need to make MORE
bombs.
So the power dynamic with the rest of society is very different,
particularly because science relies on industry, essentially, to
actually develop the ideas into technology. Wizards are much more like
lone wolves.

I disagree.
Of course you do. It's you I was disagreeing with. And I still do.
I've worked with too many scientists.
