Re: (TFT) Timing problem: Disengaging. GEVALT!

Actually, generally, never under use the pole weapons and some archers behind.... axes and swords are cool, but well used pole weapons can win the day.

The easiest way to handle hand to hand combat abuse is rank your opponents two-deep with a pole weapon in the second rank.

When your lizardman abuser tries to initiate hand to hand combat, he moves into that first rank hex during the movement phase and (most likely) ends up prone in that hex. The second rank pole weapon user is now involved in a charge for automatic first attack in the combat round and double damage and attacks him prone for +4 DX. The result will most likely be a dead lizardman and a new character.

Also, don't get discouraged. Even if you don't change your tactics at all, eventually the odds will catch up with the Lizardman, he'll roll a 6 (or a 1 I don't remember which), he'll take automatic strike damage, and he'll fail to initiate hth combat.
