Ooh, that is a tough one.  

Let's see, maybe it was the mercenary cavalry units - the 50 lances,
or the viking clan that helped oppose the zombies, 
or the Dwarven heroes - the seven blocks of granite,
or maybe the cattle rancher's regulators gone bad. 

No, I have it, I need to go way back to my college days (mid 80's - yes I am old) to one of the early adventures where 32 point heroes needed a worthy adversary.  I had a small band of hobgoblins (26 attribute points) lead by a 28 point hobgoblin.  But there were a couple of obscure weapons and some coordination of action, and they really gave the PCs a run for their money, despite being much weaker.

Now I need to go find the stats for them.  I assume most of the campaign notes are still available in my attic.  I will have to find their stats and skills.
