I actually find it somewhat refreshing to play a low-IQ wizard with Aid as well as the normal spells.
DX can be high enough I can count on hitting, I get to do more than one thing/battle, I can carry a club (staff) with some actualy oomph to it, and Aid can be a *lot* of fun. Not just to help out my flashy sister attention-hog wizards, but when the party fighters want to have adjST = 24 for a few seconds, or the archer wants to put an arrow exactly on target and really needs adjDX = 22 for that shot.
Here’s a question we have chewed on. Suppose I cast “Aid” on a fighter, and later that turn he takes damage. Does the “Aid” spell get used up first, protecting him from the damage as a kind of “virtual shield” before remaining damage applies to him? Or, if the damage would have been enough to kill him but for the Aid, does he now have 2 turns to live, dying when the Aid wears off?
I’m a softie as a referee, I’d rule that the Aid serves as a virtual shield, but I’m curious what you all think.
