Re: (TFT) Pole weapons in Rick's campaign - Play styles.

Just use GURPS, if that's what you want.
The whole point is that we want a realistic feel, not anal-retentive accura
cy in all things.  That's why we play TFT instead of GURPS....

So first off TFT weapons are highly abstract groupings that fit the die
mechanic more than model the objects. This is further muddled by the mass
production marketing mentality that treats all forms as available and in
practical service for individual melee instead of the more common arms race
weapon development exhibits ergo the pilum for the phalanx which the
landsneckars reworked for great effect in Swiss alp passes with the corners
developing into teams with each member responsible for a task that in sum
total leaves ex hvy cav but the pole weapon didn't dispatch just
dismounted... anyway pikes are not melee weapons. Those are for formations
and poor out of such like quite a few shields among other examples.
5 second turns on 1.3m tiles is a mighty slow charge and at that scale a 6
foot tall Hero can 2hex jab a 3 foot blade length into the 2nd
hex-center... waiting on a win install after the rootkit from hell so pics
are a pain till the craptops tickin again this eve... a TFT Melee attack
roll is not simulating a particular blow but rather all the action of a
short yardage play in football. For blow by blow dueling and etc I use a
modified En Guard! Swashbuckler (Yaquento) system and 1 sec turns with
phases from perception time (2sec/IQ in sight) plus action time
(1sec/DX+action mod) and on the quarter inch graph instead of the hextiles
for movement with each sq just over a square foot allowing "Author Murry"
dance step footwork and yada yada yada... the trick is to skip the rule for
everything by writing Roberts Rules for rule writing so groups can focus on
their interests while still maintaining some formality that makes it an
actual game instead of a different game every table all called D&D...
