Good point. It's fair to say *ITL* (only) is heavily based on Tolkien.
Melee is much less so, as is Adv. Melee. The Wizard and Ad. Wizard modules
are intermediate: there, there are many parallels that can be drawn. Ring
of Invisibility, Control Person (etc) items, Long-distance Telepathy Items,
Flaming Swords, Detect Enemies Items, Crystal Balls (palantirs), Blast
spell, Dazzle spell, etc. all have predecessors in Tolkien, though probably
also in other places in many cases.
