(TFT) Re: The UnderEarth modules



Lords of Underearth was a standalone microgame of underground army combat.
IIRC it had 2 ways to link with TFT: it could serve as a large-unit combat
system for TFT, and you could use TFT to resolve individual LoE combats
(like between leaders). It was one of the better later microgames. Since
TFT was a very combat-oriented system already, it would have been nice to
have rules for army combat (I would have used them in my campaigns), so I
wish they had built upon LoE and fleshed out this part of TFT.

Dragons of Underearth was released not too long before Metagaming went
under. IMHO it's a pointless dumbed-down version of TFT. It's really no
more an RPG system than the original Melee/Wizard combination was. I think
Guy McLimore explained once how it came to be. I get the idea that Howard
was trying to milk TFT by producing spinoffs (Starleader: Assault was
another one), but all these were basically failures.
