(TFT) TFT: Thail Update 532.178

THAIL UPDATE 532.178 (late summer)

   Dramatis Personae:
HUMAR, bowmaster and leader of Humar's Hunters
ELVIK, master physician, ranger, and chemist
HOBEN, hobbit mage-warrior
KIRA, half-elven ranger
KRISSI, raven-haired teenage warrior princess
SELENA, blond 10-year old warrior and scout
VAR, swordmaster and ex-pirate

Selena wakes up in an inn in Saripa. As soon as she awakes the innkeeper
gives her something to eat, and she falls asleep again.
When she wakes she is told by the kindly innkeeper what had happened to
her. "The city guard found you passed out by your horse. You're such a wee
lass, so we took you in to see if you would recover from your journey. Such
a small child traveling in the wilderness. It isn't right!"
After getting herself cleaned up, Selena tells her tale of what happened
to her and the rest of Humar's Hunters. She asks to see Ticos Cay, their
commanding officer. The innkeeper sends a helper to summon her, and she
arrives within the hour.
"Okay, Selena. What's all this about goblins?" Selena fills her in.
Captain Kay is not amused.
"Alright, let's get you some fresh clothing, and we'll go out there to
see if we can rescue them."

Four days later finds /Red Shifter/ and crew once again at the run-down
pier where they had dropped off Humar and his mercenary band. Captain Kay,
Selena, and the other search around but find little trace of them. However,
one of them discovers a path leading to the north along the coast. They
decide to follow it.
Several hours later they come upon an old pier jutting out into the
ocean. No path continues on from this location, so Ticos Cay surmises that
the goblins forced the Hunters onto a ship, and they could be almost
anywhere by now. The trail having gone cold, Ticos Cay and Selena head back
to their ship.

The next day in Gorra, it is Saturday afternoon, and time for the
Hunter's first battle. One by one the gladiators are taken from their
cells, told to choose and don weapons and armor, and put into a holding cell
adjacent to the open arena area. When the horn sounds the gates are opened,
the gladiators for the first bout step forward into the sunlight, and the
massive crowd cheers! The gladiators all look around them, not only to see
who is on their team, but to see who they must fight against. The horn
sounds again, and the fighters are instructed to mount the raised arena
floor and take up their starting positions. The horn sounds once more, and
the first bloodbath of the day begins.

In the very first fight Humar is matched up with six other random
fighters. They enter the arena to face seven others to oppose them. Humar
is the first to score a kill! Eventually Humar's side wins the fight. The
survivors enter the stands with the other gladiators to watch the remaining
fights of the afternoon. Elvik is on hand to help heal the wounds of
everyone there, friend and foe alike.

Six more battles go by. Several of the fighters are killed, and a few
more are knocked out. The goblin crowd cheers!

In the eighth fight Elvik and Var are on opposite teams of five each!
The fight begins, and Elvik and Var carefully avoid each other and
concentrate on enemy that they don't know. Eventually Elvik successfully
takes a dive without being discovered by the goblin judges, and Var's team
is triumphant.

Another fight goes by without any of the Hunters participating, then it's
Kira's turn to fight. She gets knocked out but survives, and her team wins
anyway.

The last fight has Hoben there. He gets knocked out, and his team loses.

The day's fighting over, the hobgoblin guards usher all of the gladiators
back into their cells and hand out healing potions to the victors. Another
week's spectacle has ended.
