(TFT) zombies and skeletons again

OK hears another query about the ZOMBIE spell,
now it says that you can make a zombie (min. ST 2) for 5 ST + ST of future
zombie, out of a dead body or a skeleton out of a skeleton. Fine. Now a
zombie loses 1ST/day if it ain't wearing a ring (AW & ITL). Elsewhere it
says that a zombie whose flesh has rotted away becomes a skeleton (in ITL),
but if the zombie's ST has been falling, how many ST does this skeleton
have?? It would appear there is a smidgen of conflict here........
PS: Why wouldn't a mage skin a corpse to the bone and make a skeleton in the
first place and never have to worry about ST loss?
